Have Questions?
This is one of the conditions that comes with a lot of stigma. Common feelings among those diagnosed with this condition is a perceived or real inclination that others will think differently of them while also having a personal self-distorted view, not being sure of whether their actions are really them or generally real at all, or simply due to their condition. Here at MindFocus psychology, we aim to change the dialogue around this condition, highlighting that it is treatable and fairly variable amongst all who suffer from the condition. Though this condition may have a genetic base, childhood experiences are quite telling in the way this condition may express itself. Symptoms of schizophrenia may include the following:
As there are several types of schizophrenia, type and severity of symptoms may vary from case to case.
Our therapists aim to provide an environment which is conducive to allowing our clients with schizophrenia to feel safe enough to speak of any delusions or hallucinations without fear of retribution. We are aware that it can be quite distressing to clients to experience delusions or hallucinations, particularly when the diagnosis is new, however, we ultimately seek for our clients to feel supported and understood. Some types of therapies we can use to assist in this condition include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), family therapy and vocational rehabilitation and supported employment which aims to help clients integrate, function and stay in jobs.
Beyond treatment, we actively work to reduce stigma, promoting an inclusive and empathetic environment. At MindFocus Psychology, we empower individuals with schizophrenia to navigate their journey with resilience and support.
