Is MindFocus Psychology right for me?

Here at MindFocus Psychology we aim to give you a safe, non-judgemental environment to work through what is troubling you. We provide evidence-based and holistic interventions using the biopsychosocial framework, meaning that we incorporate all aspects of life into therapy including culture differentiation. Some of our psychologists also have a neuroscience background to deliver neuro-informed interventions.

How much will it cost?

Our standard sessions cost $180 per hour. Medicare rebate is currently $92.90. Couple and family therapy is also $180 per hour. However, this cannot be covered by Medicare. Some private health insurance policies do cover a portion of this cost.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist at Mindfocus psychology?

While you don’t need a referral, having a referral from a GP to see us will allow you to claim the $92.90 Medicare rebate. In order to get a referral, you can see your GP and ask for a Mental health care plan. Your GP will ask you a series of questions to complete it for you.

What types of therapy do we provide?

We draw from a range of therapeutic frameworks including cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, schema therapy, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, polyvagal intervention, dialectical behaviour therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. We also formulate interventions from the biopsychosocial model. In some incidence, we also use an eclectic approach where we combine different types of therapy depending on client’s needs.

How do I find out what kind of therapy I need?

When starting sessions with your psychologist, they will customize the therapy based on your needs and what is most suitable for you. You are welcome to give your psychologist an idea of what might work for you but either way, our experts have your back and will tailor therapy to suit your needs.

How many sessions do I need?

Depending on your unique needs, number of sessions will vary. Through Medicare you will be able to claim up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

How frequently should I have sessions?

It will vary depending on your needs. However, it is standard practice to have a session once per week or once per fortnight.

Are my sessions going to be confidential?

All sessions are confidential at MindFocus Psychology.
