Depression

Depression comes in so many forms. It can be a complex mix of different symptoms that may present itself as withdrawal and loss of interest in activities, but it can also present itself in much more ways, including the following:

  • Gaining or losing 10% or more of original body weight.
  • Feeling perpetually overwhelmed.
  • Guilt.
  • Low self-esteem/worth.
  • Loss of libido.
  • Anger.
  • Irritability.
  • Engagement in reckless behaviours.
  • Sleep disturbances: excessive sleep or inability to sleep.
  • Suicidal thoughts.
  • Withdrawing from activities/community. 

Common types of depression include Major Depression, Persistent Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Psychotic Depression, Postpartum Depression, Situational Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), and Atypical Depression.
