Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder involves cycles of mania, depression, or a mix of both, influenced by genetic factors, gender, personal experiences, and environmental stressors. In depressive and manic states, individuals are likely to experience the following:

Depressive States:

  • Pervasive sadness
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of interest
  • Guilt
  • Pessimism
  • Suicidal ideation

Manic States:

  • Extreme excitement
  • Heightened senses
  • Excessive energy
  • Risky behaviors (impulsive spending, unsafe sex)

Bipolar disorder manifests in four types, varying in severity and symptoms: bipolar type I, bipolar type II, cyclothymic disorder, and unspecified bipolar disorder.

How we can help:

Our psychologists specialize in evidence-based treatments for bipolar disorder. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for pattern change, Interpersonal Therapy (IP) for improved relationships, couples therapy for partners with bipolar disorder, psychoeducation, and family-focused therapy. These interventions empower clients and families to manage the condition, fostering healing and addressing past traumas.

Beyond treatment, we actively work to reduce stigma, promoting an inclusive and empathetic environment. At MindFocus Psychology, we empower individuals with bipolar disorder to navigate their journey with resilience and support.
